Of the five remote viewing teachers discussed below I’m recommending the classes of Tony Rodriguez. That’s because I’ve had the most actual instruction from Tony.

With Major Ed Danes it was just a one weekend workshop and with Navy Intelligence Analyst Craig Hendrix it was just a single afternoon. With the Army/CIA remote viewers Dr. Paul Smith it was a day together in discussion. And with the Army/CIA remote viewer Joe McMoneagle there was only an email discussion of definitions, which you should read first, if you’re unfamiliar with remote viewing.

Nevertheless I think my experience with all of the teachers is worth showing. I encourage you to click the links I’ve provided to each of their remote viewing services.

Tony Rodrigues

I consider Tony to be one of the worlds’ most dedicated and consistent teachers. As a result, I felt privileged to be asked to create the cover and inside illustrations for his book:

Below is a example of a “double blind” remote viewing for Tony’s group with me as the viewer. It’s called double blind because the person who chose the target assigned a random number to it, then gave the number to a person who had no idea what the target was.

That person then tasked the RV group to use their consciousness to remotely view the target known only to them as a number. So the target could be anything – any place, event, object, or person in the past, present or future.

Dr. Paul H. Smith

I was honored to have one of the Army / CIA remote viewers Dr. Paul H. Smith accept my invitation to accompany me when I was invited by physicist Dr. Marlan Scully to visit him and his physicists at his lab at Texas A&M.

Dr. Scully was the lead physicist on the most important quantum physics experiment, “The Delayed Choice Quantum Eraser” After our visit with the physicists at Texas A&M, Dr. Smith took me to speak with Dr. Eric Davis the senior physicist at Hal Puthoff’s Institute in Austin. Hal and the psychic Ingo Swann were instrumental in the development of remote viewing for the Stanford Research Institute, the army and the CIA. At the Institute For Advanced Studies, we took a photo of Dr. Smith, Dr. Davis and me in front of a painting by Ingo Swann:

I didn’t get a chance to take Dr. Smith’s course in Remote Viewing, but you can find it at his Remote Viewing Instructional Services website.

Craig Hendricks

Although the Meetup I ran in Santa Monica for some years focused on the virtual nature of reality introduced by physicist Tom Campbell, I also had meetings on various esoteric subjects.

For one meeting I invited Navy Senior Analyst Craig Hendricks to give a class in scientific remote viewing. The results were very impressive since most of the people in the class had never done remote viewing. Nevertheless, there were many successful hits especially by my wife Kim much to her surprise!

Joe McMoneagle

My involvement with the Monroe Institute and one of its founders physicist Tom Campbell led to the following 2011 email exchange between me and one of the most accomplished and celebrated army/CIA remote viewers Joe McMoneagle.

From David:
…Tom Campbell’s description of his OBEs where he left part of his consciousness in his body in order to communicate with Bob Monroe sounds similar in some ways to the process used by remote viewers. As a result, in my lecture, I said that there are two types of OBEs – the classic type where full or partial consciousness leaves the physical body encased in a subtle body and the kind where full or partial consciousness travels away from both the subtle body and the physical body. So that remote viewing could be considered an example of the latter.

From Joe:
Not quite accurate. In RV, you understand exactly where your body is at all times, and at no point is your body where you have put your consciousness. In other words, while you are reporting, you know you are reporting from a place where your body is sitting at a table or lying on a couch and speaking directly to someone. You may even have your eyes open and be drawing specifics about the target, that is where your conscious is currently focused. Your consciousness is wherever it has been focused. So, it is possible to have the perception that your mind is floating around a target, or over a target, or through a target, but you will at the same time understand that your body hasn’t moved from where it is actually located.

In the case of OBE, your mind has the impression that your body was left somewhere else and that you have been totally disconnected from it. You remember where you left your body, and understand very clearly where your consciousness is located at all times. It is possible to be totally aware that you are standing in front of a super-nova star as it is exploding, with the sense that you will be completely vaporized by the force wave when it hits you, and have all the experiences of that that your full senses would provide if you actually were there. You remember that you left your body back on Earth in a bed sleeping and that is a place which you are fully disconnected with except for a very slender silver cord which is sometimes visualized. I, myself, have never seen such a cord, but have felt drawn back to my body as if a cord were attached. In both cases, there is no such thing as partial consciousness.

Within the Lucid Dream state, partial consciousness or a feeling of partial reality is possible. It is also possible to have what is called a false awakening while in a Lucid Dream. That is where one awakens from a Lucid Dream into another Lucid Dream where everything works just as if you woke up and were executing your normal everyday actions. However, eventually you will begin to notice small things which do not fit or which change when you look away and then look back again. You will notice that you are unable to physically interact with the reality you believe you are living. Once that happens, you may then wake up, or again awake into another false awakening. In some experiments we ran at the sleep lab at Stanford University with Steven LaBerge, I had as many as six or seven false awakenings in a single night which was a bit unnerving.

You can see about taking a course with Joe on his page at the Monroe Institute.

Major Ed Dames

Major Dames passed away April 6, 2026.
Dr. Paul Smith wrote an amazing tribute to Ed that is a must read for anyone who knew of Ed. If you have an opinion about Major Dames, you’ll probably find that it was incomplete or even wrong when you read Dr. Smith’s very interesting article about Ed, which you can read here
